Η ΕΚΘΕΣΗ
The online art platform “grcollectors” has the pleasure and honor to organize and present the exhibition “1821, a Perspective on a Revolution”.
200 young, emerging artists and several established artists held in their hands an 18x21 cm canvas where they were free to create works that express the timeless struggle of the Greeks, interpreting our history with a contemporary artistic eye.
In the spirit of creation and dialogue between artists, the exhibition presents works of art that represent the vitality and richness of the contemporary art scene.
The correlation of memory and history was one of the key demands for the organization of the Exhibition “1821, Vision of a Revolution”, where 200 contemporary artists, regardless of context, age, gender or experience, were invited to make visible as imprints their ideas and thoughts on the meaning of the 200th anniversary of the Revolution, revealing through their works the internal and external processes that define and constitute for each one their personal “homeland”.
Each work individually, but also as a whole, goes beyond simple representation and cold description, transmitting and preserving intact the primary emotion, with the concepts of time and memory intertwined in an indissoluble unity. It is the tangible connection of the memory and history of Greece with the artistic idiosyncrasy of each creator. A temperament that is charismatically transfused to the viewers of the works, transforming the Greek cultural heritage into a global one.
A modern way to learn history on terms imposed by our society 200 years later. Works of fascinating interpretations, voices of a world that hovers between tradition and modernity, between violence and hope, between poverty and development. As a whole, they present signs of innovation, vitality and open rebellion that bring positive rays for the future of Greek art and beyond. Perhaps yesterday's revolution is, today, above all, resistance to barbarity.
The exhibition "1821, perspective of a Revolution", constitutes the visual imprint of the historical continuity of the Greek state from its foundation to the present day and contributes to the preservation of historical memory.
Through the investigation of the later perception of historical events of the past, the 200 artists with various aesthetic references and approaches, coexist with their works on canvas measuring 18x21 cm. which stimulate the interest of the modern viewer, while simultaneously introducing him to the historical context that created them.
Through their own perspective, the 200 creators narrate their own "Revolution", capturing in their works the values and ideals that awakened the Greeks 200 years ago and inspired their struggle for social, spiritual and political freedom.
The opening for the public took place in July 2021, at the War Museum, Rizari 2-4, Athens.
The presentation of the exhibition invites the visitor to face the space as part of history, to take initiatives, to be able to navigate through moments of history through contemporary art.
Our aim is to "travel" to other cities in Greece that will "embrace" it, sealing its most complete presentation to the largest possible audience.
